Azure Mayhew
I Am Who I Am

May - October, 2026

I Am Who I Am
is an exhibition of artworks from Azure Mayhew’s exploration into the representation of the self. The paintings featured in this exhibition, as well as the title of the exhibition, represents a bold statement of defiance in the face of modern beauty standards and the rigid expectations for female-presenting individuals.

Mayhew focused on an exploration of her own body, and her perception of her body in both individuality and in the context of her community and society. She focuses on shifting the negative views and representation of fat bodies through intimate and vulnerable positions through the use of electrifying colours and surreal backgrounds. The figures present within the paintings are backdropped with bright and vibrant colours to represent the underlying sensuality, intimacy and a representation of love in oneself, in others and by others.

My work is a raw representation of the navigation through relationships with not only others, but also the relationship one has with their own self. Through the use of vibrant colours, surreal landscapes and figures, I aim to create a space of intrigue and beauty that is unshackled by modern standards. Growing up as a fat female-presenting individual, I faced constant judgement and teasing from not only my peers, but also the negative stereotypes and representation of fat female- presenting individuals in the media. Through my work I incorporate glimpses into my own person, balancing feelings of shame, relaxation and intimacy surrounding my own body. My goal with my artwork is to help shift the narrative surrounding fat bodies from negative to positive; to show fat bodies with raw authenticity. I strive to invoke feelings of vulnerability, intimacy and reclamation of self identity and worth through the lens of vibrant surrealism.

Federico Airaudo
Migrant Species

May - October 2026

Through drawing and painting, Federico’s residency at the Werklund Centre researches ordinary life in Calgary’s downtown core— a place that is unfamiliar to him as a newcomer artist. The artworks created in this residency engage with this sense of estrangement, not as a deficit, but rather as a generative force for artmaking and creation. Federico’s residency will bring an unconventional, playful exploration of multi-species diversity across Ecuador and Calgary by tuning into the everyday social rhythms of these two distinct places.
Also a creative and art Director, his practice explores overlap in technique, narrative, and collaboration. It’s a hybrid play between control and chaos, tradition and street, analog and digital. Bold black and white compositions are his signature, fitting a minimalist aesthetic into a maximalist energy. Whether brushed, sprayed, or projected, his marks adapt to any canvas or space aiming to connect through movement, texture and scale. The result is a moment suspended—alive with energy, yet grounded in simplicity.

Solutions for the City

May - October 2026

My painting practice at the moment is based on ideas from urban designer Jane Jacobs who believed that to solve for problems of the city it helps to think about processes; to work inductively, reasoning from particulars to the general, rather than the reverse and to seek for ‘unaverage’ clues involving very small quantifiers, which reveal the way larger and more ‘average’ quantities are operating. The first series helped me synthesize the causes of wicked problems in urban spaces, recounting stories from my formative years as an artist without a home. And I’m now starting a new series called “Solutions for the City” where I imagine a city aware of its past designed with compassion for its inhabitants. My fourth fashion collection explores cultural cross over of bootlegging and overconsumption in the Philippines. I’m collaborating with co-designers Yron Gerona and Harvey Nichol on this collection.

Tyler Wong

May - October 2026

Tyler is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores momentary flow through expressive mark-making. Bridging traditional and contemporary influences—he draws style from Asian calligraphy, graffiti, comics, and music to create a dynamic, hybrid visual language.
Between character contemplations, scenic landscapes, and macro moments, his style details a range of playful and expansive echoes of energy.
