Artist Development
TD Incubator
TD Incubator is Werklund Centre's artist development program for multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary artists. Creating essential connections between artists, mentors, administrators, and audiences TD Incubator establishes and fosters a critical foundation for Calgary artists to expand their practice, find their future collaborators and meet their audiences.
Each season, the TD Incubator program is guided by the creative vision of the Incubator Fellow who guides the direction of exhibitions and performances, acts as mentor and in-turn enjoys mentorship and support in their career development.
As the largest arts centre in Western Canada and a gathering space for all artistic disciplines, Werklund Centre (formerly Arts Commons) is uniquely positioned to foster, celebrate, elevate, and learn from the creatives we’re fortunate to connect with.

Each season of programming follows these elements:
- Networking: Meetings, discussions, and spaces to share, support, and challenge each other are created for professional artists and arts leaders to gather and exchange.
- Professional Development: Events and workshops on career development and capacity building, artistic approaches, and applying artistic practices to other areas of life, work, and culture.
- Mentorship: Tapping into Werklund Centre’s network of local and visiting artists, participants will build relationships with leaders in their fields of interest.
- Performance & Exhibition: Paid at fair standards artists connect their practice with audiences through live performance, exhibition, and/or teaching.
Submissions are accepted year-round. We are currently accepting applications for the 2026-27 season. The deadline for the 2025-26 season was June 30, 2025.

Teaching Artists and Arts Facilitator Opportunities
Workshop Teaching Artist
The Workshop Teaching Artist shares their artform in a way that allows learners to see the world through a joyful, creative lens. Learners will build new skills, knowledge, and understanding in the art form. The creative process will guide the learning, allowing participants to create, question, and reflect on the process.
Arts Facilitator
The role of the Arts Facilitator is to foster a safe and engaging environment for students, teachers, and communities during their tine at the ConocoPhillips Hub for Inspired Learning. The Facilitator works alongside the Werklund Centre Education Specialist to make learning connections through the arts with hands-on workshops, reflections, and questioning.
