Galleries

+15 Galleries

These eight galleries provide unique exhibition opportunities for community-driven exhibitions, and feature the work of emerging artists and curators. Located on the west end of the +15 walkway between City Hall and the Glenbow Museum, the +15 Galleries are always open and always free.

+15 Soundscape

Hear how sound becomes art in one of the few multichannel sound galleries in Canada – the +15 Soundscape. Showcasing the creations of local and national sound artists, Soundscape takes your daily walk to a new level and makes it an immersive arts experience. Located on the +15 level near the Theatre Calgary and Alberta Theatre Projects administrative offices, just west of the City Hall +15 walkway. 

Ledge Gallery

Lose yourself in our largest gallery space, showcasing an eclectic range of art installations and performative and sculptural works by local artists. This unique space has windows on two sides, allowing the work to be viewed from the outside looking in at any time the building is open. Entering the space and interacting with the artist and their work is welcomed when the artist is present. Exhibitions, projects, and residencies in this location will run on one- to three-month intervals. 

Lightbox Studio

Open your mind to one-of-a-kind, experimental, studio-based projects and artist exhibitions in the Lightbox Studio. Specifically for artists, designers, writers, and cultural producers, Lightbox Studio allows artists to exhibit works in progress, explore ideas that are in the middle stages of development, and generate dialogue with their audiences about their work, through an artist-in-residence format. Residencies in this location run on one- to three-month intervals.

Located on the main level of Werklund Centre, beside the Martha Cohen Theatre.

Micro Cinema

Occasionally eccentric and always thought-provoking, Microcinema showcases new experimental films while sharing stories, ideas, and connections about Canadian identity and is one of the only permanent exhibition spaces for film and media in Western Canada. See film, video art, animations, and short documentaries, on three media monitors throughout Werklund Centre. Through a curatorial selection process, Microcinema programs up to 24 local and national media artists annually in exciting micro-cinema exhibitions running three months in duration. 

Window Galleries

The Window Galleries encompass seven unique spaces showcasing two-dimensional and sculptural artworks by local emerging artists and art collectives. Located in the hall adjacent to the Max Bell Theatre, on the main level of Werklund Centre, the Window Galleries immerse you in the arts experience from the moment you enter the building. Exhibitions in this location run on three-month intervals.
