Artist Biography

Timothonius is a pianist, composer, educator, and cultural architect/tastemaker based in Calgary. Born a second-generation Canadian to Kenyan parents of the Luo tribe, his upbringing was steeped in classical and Black gospel music. During his “rebellious” years, Timothonius ventured into Hip-hop and found a strong sense of identity there, one that still shapes his creative lens today. Formally, Timothonius studied classical piano through the Royal Conservatory of Music up to Grade 8, later pursuing Jazz Performance at Mount Royal University. After completing studies at MRU, he was awarded a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music, where he studied Music Composition, Music Business, and Electronic Music Production. His artistry has always moved fluidly between mediums, blending improvisation, composition, storytelling, and curation to create experiences that feel both eclectic and timeless. Key achievements include founding the HAVEN Party, an underground performance series that became a creative refuge for Calgary’s next-gen artists; acting as band musical director for theatre productions such as Rocky Horror Picture Show, May We All, and Footloose, composing for film, and delivering workshops as a teaching artist with Werklund Centre and Jube School. He currently leads Timothonius Music Inc., a boutique agency specializing in live music, education, and community-rooted cultural strategy. The focus of his work, whether composing, performing, or teaching, is always about building bridges and forging connections between people, disciplines, cultures, and tradition.
