Artist Biography

Sacha Michaud is a Calgary-based stop-motion animator, puppet builder, and community arts facilitator. They grew up mainly in Vancouver with early years shaped by travel—including time living in India. Sacha originally studied health science and spent over 20 years working in social services. This experience deeply informs their creative practice, which combines storytelling, handcrafted animation, and community collaboration. Their first film, Camping, was created with community members who have experienced being unhoused. It went on to win awards and screen internationally. It was produced with a tremendous amount of support from Quickdraw Animation Society (QAS) as part of the Chris J Melnychuk Memorial Scholarship and Production Residency. They have led community workshops, participated in residencies, and served on programming committees for GIRAF and the Edmonton Short Film Festival. Their work balances serious themes with humour and curiosity, inviting viewers to see beyond labels and recognize our shared responsibility to one another.
