Artist Biography
Margarita (Rita) Rebetskaya is a Calgary-based director, choreographer, and movement artist. She graduated from the Theatre Studies Department at GITIS (Russian Academy of Theatre Arts) and performed internationally with the Igor Moiseyev Ballet. In Moscow, she led InterAction Inclusive Theatre Project for People with Down Syndrome. Since relocating to Canada, Margarita has pursued interdisciplinary creation through the MFA program at the University of Calgary, the Professional Training Program at Decidedly Jazz Danceworks, and independent projects such as Error 404 and Dancing Monkey Laboratory. She has worked as a choreographer for University of Calgary productions and presented work at the Fluid Festival (with Denise Clarke), Fringe Festival, and Alchemy Festival. Margarita co-founded The Murmur Theater and leads Artist Circle, a peer artist network. She was named Artist of the Month for June 2025 by ICA.
