r u home yet collective
Artist Statement
This is a collection of works by the ‘r u home yet’ collective. These pieces include Magpie & Squirrel, Bimbo & Bobrick, both featured in CAMP’s Wunderbriefs, as well as Sprout Up, which was our first performance piece. All of these pieces are made from sustainable materials: trash, scrap fabrics, old roofing tile, and donated materials. We
believe in being climate conscious artists, and want to create art that inspires people to take a second look at what they are throwing away to consider if there are ways to give it a second life. Additionally, as young artists, working in this medium has made art more accessible, which allows creativity to flow more freely.
These pieces are inspired by nature and the way humans and animals influence one another. We sat on a bench, watching a magpie and a squirrel fighting over an abandoned bag of chips on the ground and were struck by the human impact we have on these creatures. We took some time to think about how easily we discard things, about how we view garbage, and decided to take a moment to slow down and try to find the beauty in things that have been thrown away. From there, we started building, and as we worked, we were also inspired by how we could bring movement in these pieces. Going back to the magpie and squirrel from the bench, we wanted to encapsulate their natural movements, with a human influence. So, these pieces became collaborative not only between the two of us, but also between us and nature.

r u home yet is a collection of two lost souls on a journey of healing through art. We create sustainable, interdisciplinary theatre that is unfathomable and ephemeral. We have a main focus on blending movement, poetry, theatre, and fine art.
