Laila Blue
Artist Biography
Laila Blue is a filmmaker, actor, and multidisciplinary artist based in Alberta. She began acting as a child and trained on and off at the Company of Rogues. Her passion for storytelling expanded into writing and directing, leading to her first short film, Flow—asurreal, mixed-media exploration of beauty culture told through stop-motion, live-action, and animation. The film is currently on the festival circuit. She was an assistant director on the CBC feature Dusk and Dawn, which inspired her shift into directing. As an actor, she stars in Cancer Szn (2025 CUFF) and Slugger (Lift-Off Filmmaker Festival), and has worked as a background actor on Hallmark’s Ride and Netflix’s Living with the Water Boys. Her work often explores identity, trauma, and societal pressure through a surreal and satirical lens. This summer, she’ll direct Boxed In, a psychological thriller short and proof of concept for a future feature.
