Artist Biography
Hi! My name is Jiwoo. I am a Korean animator based in Calgary, Alberta. My animation work is
surreal, playful, and a little unhinged. My artistic practice focuses on retelling everyday
experiences in surreal and comical ways. For example, my student film No Sheep, No Sleep
explored a man struggling to fall asleep because he is counting far too many sheep in his head.
My debut film, COWMAN, tells the story of the alien abduction of a farmer and his cow, and their journey to cope with the aftermath of this strange and terrible experience through their love for each other. I am currently working on a film titled The Other Half, which follows a girl navigating modern dating and her journey toward self-love. Through my work, I aim to bring smiles to people’s faces and tell stories that make difficult situations feel a little more bearable. Above all, I hope my films make people laugh and simply have a good time.
