Artist Biography
Derek Haussecker is an artist and musician living and working in Calgary Alberta. He works through a variety of mediums including painting, drawing, sound, video, installation and performance. He graduated from the Alberta University of Art in 2023, with a BFA in Media Art. He is a percussionist, educator and active member of the local music scene. Performing in a number of groups but most notably with local indie rock band Bad Bodies, and touring with Montreal artist, Yves Jarvis, through Europe and the UK in September of 2022. His audio-based practice deals with the relationships between the body and the creation/perception of sound. His visual art practice utilizes similar ideas of rhythm, pattern and movement in the creation of dream-like imagery that blurs reality into a cartoonish composition highlighting a sense of motion or action.
