Alisha is a Health Sciences student at the University of Calgary and an undergraduate researcher at the Hotchkiss Brain Institute. In addition to her love of Science, Alisha has a strong passion for poetry. In her work, she incorporates English poetry with lines from the Qur’an and words from her Gujarati heritage to represent her Ismaili Muslim background and contribute to the establishment of a cosmopolitan ethic in the poetry community. In all of her writing, her goal is to spread love and empathy to leave the world in a better place than she found it.  

 Alisha is the Co-Founder of the U of C Creative Writing Circle, a club which aims to create a welcoming space for students to explore all forms of creative writing, regardless of their experience level. Alisha has performed at multiple open mic nights and events including the The Western Muslim Initiative’s Muslim Art Movement IX, Yemen Art Relief and Islamic Relief UCalgary’s Poet’s Cafe, The People’s Poetry Fest 2020, and the Sustainable Development Goals Alliance and UCalgary Office of Sustainability’s International Development Week Breaking Borders event. Lastly, Alisha’s work has been included in various publications such as Overachiever Magazine, Isa Magazine, Opaline Magazine, and the Ink Movement National Youth Anthology.
