Artist Biography

Nigerian–South African multidisciplinary poet, spoken-word artist, author, educator, and arts manager and works in Mohkínstsis. Shaped by her culture, identity, and the experience of moving between continents, she explores how communication, connection, and self-expression shift across place and context. Through these experiences, she discovered her poetic voice—one that balances personal truth with collective stories. Her practice centres on social commentary, explorations of connection, identity, and presence, positioning poetry as a space for shared care and understanding. Her work spans performance, publication, curation, and community-based practice, with a focus on accessibility and embodied listening.

While completing her degree in Kinesiology at the University of Calgary, aloT of Poetry developed strong ties to the arts community. She has collaborated with numerous partners, including the National Music Centre; Arts Commons (now the aloT of Poetry Bios 2 Werklund Centre); cSPACE; The Grand Theatre; the University of Calgary; Alberta University of the Arts; Action Dignity; the Writers’ Guild of Alberta; and the League
of Canadian Poets.

Her writing has been published in Bi-Pan Magazine, F-Word Magazine, the YYC: POP Anthology curated by Calgary’s 4th Poet Laureate Sheri-D Wilson, and This Might Help, a legacy project by Calgary’s 5th Poet Laureate Natalie Meisner. Her work has been exhibited at Gallery@501 and the Werklund Centre Window Galleries, and featured in the academic publication Decolonizing Literacies (University of Calgary Werklund School of Education).

In 2025, she released her debut chapbook, A Lot of People, which reflects her collaborative approach to making and sharing work. Additional copies are available at Shelf Life Books. As founder of Poetic Designers, she supports independent creatives while continuing to curate connective poetic experiences. Her poetry and blog, Poetry and Purpose, can be found at alotofpoetry.com
