Untitled: The Pippa Bacca Parable

Created by Marina Buston & Hannah Meyers Untitled: The Pippa Bacca Parable is a dance-theatre devised work inspired by the art and tragic death of Italian feminist performance artist, Pippa Bacca, who was killed in Turkey during a performance art piece in which she hitchhiked in a wedding dress intending to promote world peace and the “marriage between different peoples and nations” in 2008. In this project we aim to reframe the familiar by attempting to create a modern, intersectional parable out of the art and death of Pippa Bacca. In using (or misusing) the familiar form of a parable, or allegory to tell a complex story with no clear moral, we will highlight the profound failure of white feminism and its insistence on eliminating complexity, intersectionality, and disparate truths from every conversation.
